Family Engagement

What is Family Engagement ?

Hi all welcome to our Family Engagement page.

You may know me, or have seen me around the school, My name is  Mrs Kay Speight and I am your Family Engagement Officer.

I have worked in Alway Primary School since 2005, and have had many roles, but have to say, this one I am passionate about.

Myself, Teachers and  families, organised Armed Foces day in 2019, the day was a huge suvccess and we were extremely lucky with the weather. We invited some of our veterans from the area, who couldn't praise our children enough on how polite and interested in their stories, they were.

However, this year has put a stop to our plans, we had lots of things in place, First Aid workshops for both children and Adults, Various Free Courses for parents and some parents were keen to start an Allotment, and refurbish our stage in Key Stage 2 Hall, hopefully these things are just on hold.

Let  us all hope that 2021 brings us loads  more Ideas for both parents and our children.

In the meantime if any of wish to contact me for anything, then please do so, I can be contacted on:

Take care all

St Davids Celebration 2019

We invited parents in to make Welsh cakes with the children, they had a lot of fun, both children and Parents.

Our School, has always prided itself on our links with our parents, by working closely with you. Over the past twelve months, an increasing number of schools, have created a designated ‘FaCE worker’ within their schools, widely known as Family Engagement.

Family engagement is a shared responsibility in which schools and other community agencies and organizations are committed to reaching out to engage families in meaningful ways and in which families are committed to actively supporting their children's learning and development.

We feel that effective family engagement cuts across and reinforces learning in the multiple settings where children learn- at home, in Nursery settings, in school, in after school programs, and in the wider community.

We aim to :

  • Establish and foster good relationships with our parents/carers/families of our children
  • Encourage and support parental/carer/family involvement with our school and in the children’s learning
  • Encourage good relations and effective dialogue between parents, carers, families with regards to your child’s progress and how that progress can be supported at home
  • Acting as a point of contact for families
  • Leading on pastoral care and wellbeing
  • Helping to ensure smooth transition from school to school

What we Do

At the moment due to the current COVID restrictions, we are limited  to what we can do, however, I would love to hear your Ideas so please feel free to email me
